• The sun is out!

    Hi!

So today is a beautiful sunny day in half term, which is great for the kids! After a typically overcast, washed out Valentine's Day, it's wonderful to wake up to a glimpse of warm, dry sunshine.

I know it may not be the first thing on your mind as you're packing the kids up and taking them outside to take advantage of the day, but please remember your eyes! We all know not to look directly at the sun so as not to damage our eyes, but what effect does bright sunshine have? UV rays from the sun are known to cause damage which is related to lots of different eye problems, as it can burn parts of your eye, similar to sunburn on your skin, causing swelling. It's even believed to speed up the development of cataracts! It's also not very comfortable to be out in the sunshine without the correct eye protection, as it causes you to squint.

So what can we do do protect our eyes from the sun? The answer to this is wear sunglasses! Sunglasses are a stylish and practical way to keep your eyes shaded from the sun without having to avoid it. You can have sunglasses without a prescription, but if you do need your glasses to see, you can also buy prescription sunglasses. These can be for general use, for reading, or even as varifocals or bifocals! If you don't like the idea of switching between your normal glasses and your sunglasses throughout the day, there are also UV-reactive lenses called Transitions® that will become darker when exposed to more sun, providing you with exactly the amount of protection you need.

Sunglasses are fun, a fashion statement, and range from inexpensive to designer frames such as Prada and Ray-Ban!

Come and see us here at Avery Opticians and we can advise you on what eye protection would be perfect for you!

  • Welcome!

    Welcome all!

    Welcome to Avery Opticians today.

We, the team here at Avery Opticians, have decided to create a space where we can express ourselves and share what is important to us. This could be anything from new frame ranges we're excited about, to advances in treatments for various optical conditions, to interesting news in our community, and even Charlton's football results!

We are an opticians. We are here primarily, first and foremost, to care for your eyes. We are also somewhere you can get some fashionable new glasses, because lets face it, if you have to wear them, why not wear them well? Finally though, we are a part of a community. We want to get to know our customers, engage in what they find interesting, and share our interests too.

So please, get involved; visit us and meet our team, contact us and tell us what you want to see from your community optician. Enjoy reading what we share with you, and share it with others too!

Thank you for reading, have a wonderful day.
